Zappos Game Night!

Hey Scholars!
Last week was a pretty hectic one, but we all hope that most of you were able to stop by Zappos' awesomely fun game night on Tuesday!

As always, there were a lot of games set up for attendees to play. With a Kindle Fire on the line, everyone brought their A-game!

This time, Zappos even brought Legos and held a mini-competition (with a pretty large prize) to see who could build the best Lego creation!

Of course, throughout the night, attendees got the chance to talk to Zappos recruiters to learn more about the company and what they offered:

The Zappos team was so awesome! They were full of spirit and lots of fun throughout the event!

Thanks so much to Zappos for stopping by! We all had a blast and we can't wait to see you all soon!

Intel Tech Talk!

Last week, we got the semester's events off to a great start with a visit from none other than Intel!

Intel, in town for the career fair, held a tech talk for interested students on Storage Technology, Catching, and Software Implication.

It was great to see so many new faces at our event as well as some familiar ones!

Near the end of the tech talk, Intel held a raffle with students' resumes, and the winners left with some awesome prizes: a pair of Skullcandy headphones and an Intel SSD!

Once everything had been cleaned up, several members stayed behind to catch up with each other over card games, ending the event on a high note.

Thanks so much to Intel for stopping by! We can't wait to see you the next time you come to UMich!

First Annual North Campus Tie-Dye(ag)!

CSE Scholars hopes everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend...we sure did!
This past weekend, CSE Scholars decided to offer students a chance to dye something other than just eggs -- shirts!

We held a tie-dyeing event, now dubbed the North Campus Tie-Dye(ag) (since it was held on the North Campus diag), where many students came out and brought their CSE Scholars T-shirts for a chance to personalize them in some very colorful ways.

We were very lucky that it was a beautiful day, and members gathered near the North Campus Bell Tower to decorate their T-shirts.

It was so nice out that some students even took naps!

In the end, everyone who attended left with a unique shirt that symbolized their own personality as well as their appreciation of CSE Scholars.

The event was a success! In fact, those who weren't able to attend requested that this event be repeated every year as a social event that would allow the members to get to know each other while exploring their artistic sides, something many engineering majors don't get to tap into too often.

Hopefully, if we do repeat this event, it'll be as much fun as it was this time!

Flashback: Laser Tag with Orbitz!

Earlier in the year, some students in CSE Scholars got to go to a laser tag event with Orbitz! Attendees were able to get a chance to mingle with recruiters as well as play some super-fun laser tag!

Here are some pictures from the event:

Flashback: Fall 2011 Mass Meeting!

Has it been a whole semester already?

It's hard to believe that, just a few months ago, CSE Scholars was welcoming several new potential members to our organization at our Fall 2011 mass meeting!

All of our officers got to speak to everyone attending about their role in the group, why they thought the group was successful and a useful asset to everyone, and how it had helped them with their academic goals.

The place was packed, and once the meeting was finished, all of the attendees got to mingle over pizza and pop. New friends and plans were made as several people signed up to attend a number of community service, social, and company events.

Once all the pizza boxes and soda bottles had been cleaned up, several officers, members, and first-time attending students got together and played an icebreaker game where we each had to say an interesting fact about ourselves and any other person who that fact applied to had to stand up and change their chair. There was one less chair than the number of participants, so if you were too slow, you'd be stuck in the middle!

Check out a small clip from that game below:

Many of us stayed and continued to play this game for more than two hours, and, at the end of it all, all of us had become good friends. Some of us realized that we'd been in the same classes for a whole semester and had never even spoken prior to that night!

Overall, the mass meeting was a big success. Many new people discovered CSE Scholars and past attendees became full members. We were able to spread our name all over the student body and gained several potential members as well.

Kick Starting the CSE Ballers!

Earlier this year, the CSE Scholars decided to venture into a field previously unknown and sign up for an intramural sports team!

We ended up choosing to play soccer, so several members of our group met up on Thursday evenings to play games in the intramural league. Our team faced other student organizations in the league, such as a group of students from the law school! We played with a lot of heart, and although we didn't win every game we participated in, we gained a sense of camaraderie. We even came up with a great team name: The CSE Ballers!

Overall, it was a wonderful bonding experience for all members involved.
Click the post to check out some photos from our games!

Above: Our team was visited by a member's dog! All the players enjoyed meeting and interacting with her.

Below: Once the other team arrived, we began the game.
Check us out -- we're in the yellow jerseys!
